Pigs

The latest venture in the Perrinpit Paddock has a curly tail...

We have always been BIG fans of a good hog roast; apple sauce, a fluffy white bap and of course… muchos stuffing! However, we also have a bit of a penchant for those lovely curly tailed creatures, so we’ve created a hog roast with a conscience! Our piggies are lovingly and naturally reared with fresh grass, fallen apples and home grown barley to produce a succulent, sweet and super scrummy hog roast…with seriously awesome crackling! We had a very successful summer of hog roasting at hoe downs, where our pork went down an absolute treat – especially with a little home pressed cider!

Vinny the pig has also been busy herself this summer… becoming a mummy for the first time, farrowing seven naughty piglets - who are quickly becoming little barrels on legs! They’ve got a big field to explore, some goosey next door neighbours to investigate and lots of mud to wallow and splash in. All that adventuring is tiring work for the little ‘uns so lots of Mummy’s milk and sleep is called for! They also love taunting their Aunty Cilla, especially by sneaking up on her when she’s catching forty winks! Cilla doesn’t mind though, as long as they don’t mess around come dinner time…she is not a fan of bad table manners!

The piglets are a cross of Oxford Sandy and Black and Large Whites which is why some are spotty and tan and some are little pinkers! They are getting just as tame as their Mummy and Aunty and nearly as keen on a good back scratch! Cilla is a very special pig as she is an English Lop. The Lop is a favourite of the heroic Clarissa Dickson Wright and more rare than the Great Panda! She is a brilliant Aunty and very beautiful which is why we think Cilla would make a very good mummy to some pure bred Lops soon - horay more piglets!
